What is iTalk?
Rather than making phone calls over the old copper wire network, iTalk lets you to make calls through your home broadband connection. What this means is MUCH CHEAPER PHONE CALLS for Kiwi's all across NZ.
Whats even better.... if you make phone calls to other iTalk users around NZ, the calls are completely FREE!
iTalk is New Zealand’s most popular residential voice over internet service - not surprising when you see how much it saves people. So much so that in 2005 slingshot won the TUANZ Broadband Innovation Award for this great NZ service.
IMPORTANT:
iTalk is not a replacement for your normal phone line. It won’t work if there’s a power outage. If used to make a 111 call your location won’t be presented to emergency services.
Important: iTalk can't be used to call some premium services, incl. 0900
HOW DOES IT WORK?
iTalk offers you VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) as a cheap alternative to the traditional phone network by using digital technology to send ‘voice packets’ through your broadband connection.
WHAT GEAR DO I NEED TO USE IT?
You can connect your existing phone with a Linksys ATA or try our free Softphone via your home PC. Either way, when you want to make a call, you just pick up and dial like you always have. You can be up and running, minutes after signing up.
