Other important information

1. Slingshot Insurance

1.1 We’ve partnered with Open Insurance Limited (Open) to offer house, contents, and landlords’ house insurance (Slingshot Insurance) to our customers. We’ve set out below some important information that you should know about insurance. By applying for insurance, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the information below.

2. Powered by Open, underwritten by Tower

2.1 Slingshot Insurance is issued by Open on behalf of the insurer, Tower Limited (Tower). Open acts as an agent of Tower in providing and administering insurance, including assessing and processing all insurance claims.

2.2 Slingshot is a trading name of CallPlus Services Limited. Slingshot promotes insurance products, and acts as Open’s premium collection and administration agent if you buy a policy.

2.3 Tower is a licensed insurer in New Zealand and underwrites all insurance policies, acting through Open. Tower is the only organisation responsible for claims under insurance. Open and Slingshot do not guarantee the obligations of, or any insurance products underwritten by, Tower. You can view Tower’s financial strength rating here.

2.4 Slingshot receives a commission from Open on sales and renewals of insurance policies and provides certain services on behalf of Open.

3. Eligibility & applying for insurance

3.1 Slingshot Insurance is not available to everyone.

3.2 Open and Tower determine and may change the eligibility criteria for insurance at their sole discretion.

3.3 To find out if you are eligible and to apply for insurance you must complete the application process.

4. Policy Wording & Certificate of Insurance

4.1 Your insurance cover consists of two documents: the policy wording (Policy Wording) and your certificate of insurance (Certificate of Insurance).

4.2 The Policy Wording sets out the terms, conditions and exclusions that apply to your insurance. Among other things, it explains:

  • Benefits, exclusions and limitations of your cover
  • Details of the 15-day free look period
  • What your responsibilities are
  • What happens if you need to make a claim
  • How changes can be made to your policy
  • How your policy can be cancelled

4.3 Slingshot Insurance Policy Documents have been awarded the WriteMark. This means they meet an internationally recognised plain language standard.

4.4 Your Certificate of Insurance tells you what assets are covered, what level of cover applies and whether any special terms and conditions apply. Your Certificate of Insurance will be sent to you after you have completed the application process and accepted a quote.

4.5 The information on this page supplements but does not replace the Policy Wording and Certificate of Insurance. To the extent there is any conflict between the information on this page and the Policy Wording and/or Certificate of Insurance, the Policy Wording and/or Certificate of Insurance will prevail.

5. Payment of your Premium

5.1 Your Certificate of Insurance shows your total annual premium amount (Premium).

5.2 We will invoice you for the Premium on your Slingshot bill. Your Premium will be pro-rated in accordance with your chosen billing frequency.

5.3 You must pay the Premium in full by the due date shown on your Slingshot bill. If any Premium remains unpaid 58 days following the due date for payment, we may cancel your Policy (effective from the first day of the period that the unpaid Premium relates).

6. Privacy

6.1 Our Privacy Policy forms part of our agreement with you and sets out how we collect, use and disclose your personal information in connection with insurance. This policy is available on our website at www.slingshot.co.nz/privacy-policy.

6.2 As a insurance customer you will also provide personal information to Open and Tower. You acknowledge and agree that Open and Tower will collect, use and disclose your information in accordance with their respective privacy policies, which are available at beopen.com/terms and www.tower.co.nz/terms-and-conditions/#privacy.
